About the Recipe
These vegan bacon bits are the perfect way to add a smoky, savory crunch to any dish! Made with TVP and a flavorful blend of seasonings, they deliver the rich, sweet, and smoky taste of traditional bacon—without the meat. Sprinkle them over salads, soups, baked potatoes, or any meal that could use a little extra flavor and texture.

Note: The ingredient quantities listed are approximate. I’ve been cooking by ‘eyeballing’ for years, and this recipe has naturally evolved without precise measurements. I have done my best to estimate the correct amounts and ratios of ingredients for smaller portions, but feel free to adjust as needed. Everyone’s taste preferences vary, so you may want more or less of some ingredients. Feel free to play and make it your own! Enjoy.
Ingredients
1 cup TVP (texturized vegetable protein)
1/4 cup tbsp amino acids or soy sauce
3 tbsp maple syrup
1 tbsp water
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
Preparation
Step 1 - Prepare the liquid
In a medium saucepan, combine the amino acids (or soy sauce), maple syrup, water, liquid smoke, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture comes to a boil.
Step 2 - Add the TVP
Add the TVP to the saucepan, stirring well to ensure it's fully coated with the marinade. Remove from heat, cover with a lid, and let sit for 15 minutes to allow the liquid to absorb completely.
Step 3 - Cool
Once the mixture has cooled completely, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
