Matthew and I have been partners in this journey for over a decade. Our paths crossed through plant medicine in 2014, and since then, ayahuasca has profoundly shaped every aspect of our lives. She guided us out of our darkest chapters and blessed us with the purest gift of all: finding each other.
Our path hasn’t always been easy. Like any journey, we’ve faced our share of ups and downs, navigating personal and professional challenges along the way. But through it all, ayahuasca has been our anchor, helping us cultivate a love that is deeply rooted in mutual respect, support, and admiration. She has guided us through the trials of marriage, moments of doubt, and the ongoing work of self-discovery. This medicine has strengthened us as individuals, partners, lovers, and best friends.
Many of our guests often ask how we continue to do this work. While we find immense joy in supporting others, the truth is that it’s a byproduct of our own healing. Each ceremony, each retreat, helps us grow, and in turn, better equips us to hold space for your transformation.

THE AYAHUASCA CEREMONY
TRADITIONALLY TRAINED GUIDES
Our ceremonies provide a safe and therapeutic space for participants to navigate the ayahuasca experience, encouraging a journey inward to confront darkness and embrace light. By exploring this duality and accepting all parts of ourselves, we cultivate balance and self-awareness, paving the way for profound healing and growth.
Every ceremony is led by our dedicated ayahuasqueros, Matt and Jeanae, who bring 10+years of experience and a deep connection to the medicine. Matt began his plant medicine journey in 2011 with Ibogaine in Mexico (featured on HBO's VICE) before transitioning to work with ayahuasca in Costa Rica. Jeanae was introduced to ayahuasca in 2014, and together they felt called to deepen their understanding of its traditional practices. Their path led them to Peru, where they apprenticed under renowned shaman Don Ron Wheelock.
Having completed numerous master plant dietas and facilitated hundreds of ceremonies, Matt and Jeanae have become strong, compassionate ceremonial leaders. Their ceremonies are conducted in darkness and guided by Icaros, or medicine songs, which serve as a powerful conduit for the healing energy of ayahuasca. The experience begins with cleansing rituals to prepare the space, followed by a deeply transformative night of music, with Matt's commanding Icaros supported by Jeanae's flute and a range of instruments.
To ensure the energy of the ceremony is well-held, both Matt and Jeanae drink ayahuasca alongside participants, allowing them to navigate and guide the flow of the space. Additionally, a minimum of two helpers are present to provide support as needed, ensuring everyone feels safe and cared for throughout their journey.

ECO-CONSCIOUS
AYAHUASCA COSTA RICA RETREAT
At our eco-retreat, we cultivate a mindful relationship with the natural world, recognizing the profound lessons ayahuasca, a sacred medicine from the earth, offers about valuing the resources and gifts our planet provides.
While we offer modern comforts such as air-conditioning and a pool, we prioritize sustainability to minimize our impact on the local ecosystem. This includes recycling, conserving energy by turning off lights and A/C when not in use, and incorporating natural building materials wherever possible. By observing our daily habits and reflecting on how our consumption affects the earth, we can adopt more conscious and sustainable practices.

AYAHUASCA SAFETY
PHYSICAL AND ENERGETIC PROTECTION
Ayahuasca is safe when used properly, however, there are known risks associated with its use.
The primary safety concern is with interactions between Ayahuasca and other drugs/medications which could have adverse interactions or even fatal consequences. To ensure the safety of all our guests, we require every participant to complete a medical questionnaire over the phone before booking. In addition to the screening protocol, New Life Ayahuasca Costa Rica retreat center is equipped with emergency medical equipment such as an AED (automatic electronic defibrillator) and emergency medications. Jeanae and Matthew are certified in CPR and AED use. We always have 2 assistants at every ceremony to respond when needed.
Beyond physical safety, we safeguard our energetic space. Our training has equipped us with the ability to hold a ceremonial space with expertise and care. We use spirit allies for protection and possess the knowledge of when and how to interact with any spirits or entities that may enter the ceremonial space. As part of our mission to provide safe experiences, we limit our groups so that the ceremonial container can be maintained through the powerful energetic exchange not only from Ayahuasca but by each participant in the group.
